When using large language models, it is easy to assume that they always get it right or use the right sources. Since most don’t tell you how they come up with their responses, it is not easy to tell. Anthropic has now introduced Citations. It can give you detailed references to the exact sentences and passages it uses to generate responses.
Prior to this update, you’d have to come up with complex prompts to get Claude to include source information. Now you can add source documents to the context window and have Claude cite claims in its output that are based on those sources. Citations uses the standard token-based pricing model.
